At Bootcamp, you may have seen our members training with weighted vests, these are 10kg and are designed for increased resistance and cardio conditioning. With their high versatility, weight vests allow for a broad range of exercises, such as jogging, push-ups, sit-ups, burpees and many more. 💪
Love them or hate them - there's a lot of benefits!
(1) Increases your strength and endurance
Carrying extra weight during exercise requires added strength and oxygen, and with any exercise the more weight used, the more your muscles have to adapt to the heavier weight— which then builds this strength and muscular endurance.
(2) They create variation in your training
Human bodies adapt to specific movements over a period of time, whether positive or negative. Weighted vests provide a great tool for variation that our bodies aren’t prepared for. This unconventional exercise method allows us to throw our systems off whenever necessary.
(3) Increases your cardiovascular fitness
Similarly to the increase in muscular strength and endurance, adding this extra weight, means the cardiovascular system has to go into overdrive as a result of the added resistance, strengthening the lungs and and your VO2 Max.
(4) Musculoskeletal Benefits
As well as Strengthening your muscles and increasing your cardiovascular fitness, wearing a weighted vest when running will increase the load transmitted through your bones. The bones become stronger and denser overtime to adapt to this extra weight.
So now you're interested in strapping on one of these bad boys at your next session, it's important to consider your current fitness level, any previous or current injuries you may have and the intensity of the session. If you're unsure and want to give a vest a try, have a chat with Gabriel at your next session!
