How to Prepare for Winter Training at Bootcamp ❄️

Winter training brings its own unique challenges - but also its unique rewards. While the temptation to stay indoors is strong, sessions during the colder months are an opportunity to test your mental and physical limits.

They’ll push you to build grit, consistency, and resilience - the foundations of what we preach 💪🏼

Here, I’ll share practical tips to help you stay prepared, safe, and motivated so you can make the most of your winter training sessions.

Whether you’re a seasoned Bootcamper or new to the community, this will help you tackle the winter with confidence.

  1. Benefits of Winter Training

Training outdoors in winter isn’t just about keeping fit—it’s about leveling up. Here’s why you shouldn’t hibernate:

It Builds Mental Toughness: Showing up in challenging conditions builds discipline and resilience, which translates to success in all areas of your life.

It Burns More Calories: Your body has to work harder to stay warm in the cold, in turn increasing the calorie burn during your training sessions.

It helps Boost your Immunity: Regular exercise outdoors strengthens your immune system, helping you ward off the winter bugs.

Building Consistency is Key: Staying consistent through winter keeps you on track with your fitness goals, rather than quitting and then starting up again in spring.

The Community Spirit: There’s something special about training alongside others who brave the elements—it’s a shared win every time you show up! Plus it makes you 10% more hardcore ;)

2. How to Dress for Winter Training

When it comes to winter the right clothing can make all the difference. Here’s a simple layering system to stay comfortable and safe:

Base Layer: Wear moisture- wicking thermal layers to keep you dry and warm.

Middle Layer: Insulating layers like fleece, sweaters or jumpers will trap warmth while still being breathable.

Outer Layer: A waterproof or windproof jacket will help protect you from the rain, wind, or snow.

Gloves and Socks: Gloves and thick socks (water proof socks if you want to go extra) are essential.

Myself and a lot of the members use Sealskins but any waterproof gloves will be also be fine I’ve attached links to both below

Footwear: Wear trainers with good grip for wet or icy conditions. Trail running shoes are often a great option and most of these are water proof, look out for those that say they have Gortex

Accessories: A hat, headband, or buff will help protect your head, ears, and neck, which lose heat quickly.

I always say it’s always better to be well-prepared than getting cold and then not being able to get warm again.

3. Winter Training Mindset

Your mindset is just as important as your gear when it comes to winter training.

Here’s how to embrace the challenge:

Focus on Progress: Remind yourself that showing up in tough conditions makes you stronger—both mentally and physically.

Reframe the Cold: Instead of dreading the weather, think of it as an opportunity to train in conditions most people avoid. You’re setting yourself apart.

Lean on the Group: Training with others who brave the elements can keep you motivated. It’s easier to stay committed when you’re part of a supportive community, we’re stronger together 💪🏼

If I’ve missed anything please let me know but this should be a good start for you all!

Remember to embrace the cold and..

Don’t be shit.

Gabriel.
